AS9102 FAQs
Is AS9102 compliance mandatory?
There’s no legal requirement for manufacturers to comply with the AS9102 standard.
However, since it has been widely adopted across the industry, many large players require accreditation for vendor approval.
What are the three forms needed for AS9102 compliance?
A first article inspection report (FAIR) should include three completed forms: part number accountability, product accountability and characteristic accountability.
What is included the AS9102(C) update?
Published in 2023, AS9102 Rev C introduced a number of changes across the three FAIR forms, such as tweaks to field names and the removal of signature fields from forms two and three.
When should a FAI be conducted?
First article inspections (FAIs) are usually requested by customers when ordering a part for the first time.
However, they may also be necessary when changes are made to the product design, production process, materials, tools or manufacturing location.
What information should be included in the report?
A first article inspection report (FAIR) should include all key information, from part number and description, to functional test results and the physical characteristics measured.
How does AS9102 compliance support AS9100 accreditation?
AS9100 requires manufacturers to establish, document, implement and verify production processes.
By following the FAI process outlined in AS9102, you can demonstrate that your production processes deliver products that meet the right specifications to comply with AS9100.
