AS9100 Compliance
The quality management standard for aviation, aerospace and defense.
AS9100 expands on ISO 9001 with industry-specific requirements for configuration management, risk, product safety and more. Achieving certification demonstrates your commitment to the highest standards of quality.

What is AS9100?
AS9100 is an internationally recognized quality management system (QMS) standard developed specifically for the aviation, aerospace and defense industry. Built on the foundation of ISO 9001, it adds critical aerospace-specific requirements including configuration management, risk management, product safety, counterfeit part prevention, and special process controls.
Organizations across the aerospace supply chain — from raw material suppliers to tier-1 manufacturers and MRO providers — rely on AS9100 certification to demonstrate their ability to consistently deliver products and services that meet customer, statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Internationally recognized certification
- Builds on ISO 9001:2015 framework
- Covers product safety & configuration management
- Required by most major aerospace OEMs

FAQs
Why AS9100 is important and what it takes to achieve certification.
AS9100 builds on ISO 9001 by adding aerospace-specific requirements such as configuration management, risk management, special requirements, critical items, and product safety. While ISO 9001 applies broadly, AS9100 is tailored for the aviation, aerospace and defense supply chain.
Any organization in the aviation, aerospace, or defense supply chain that wants to demonstrate consistent quality and gain access to major OEM programs. Although not legally mandated, many tier-1 manufacturers require suppliers to hold AS9100 certification.
Rev D is the current revision of AS9100, released in 2016. It aligned the standard with ISO 9001:2015's high-level structure (Annex SL) and introduced enhanced requirements for risk-based thinking, organizational context, and operational risk management.
Timelines vary, but most organizations take 6–12 months to implement the QMS requirements and prepare for the Stage 1 and Stage 2 certification audits. Using dedicated software can significantly accelerate this process.
Ideagen provides integrated quality management software that maps directly to AS9100 clauses — from document control and CAPA to supplier management and audit readiness. This reduces manual effort, minimizes risk, and keeps your QMS audit-ready at all times.
