Key insights from the AAA Auditing Section Meeting 2026

We had an incredible time at the AAA Auditing Section Midyear Meeting in San Antonio! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with our team; the conversations with researchers, doctoral students and auditing professionals were exactly why we're committed to supporting academic research. Hearing directly from you about the challenges and opportunities in your work reinforced what we see every day, that the auditing research community is doing remarkable work that's pushing the field forward.

One theme emerged clearly throughout the conference: Ideagen audit analytics data is invaluable for researchers to do their best work. Here are our key takeaways from the event.

Our key takeaways from the event:

1. How award-winning research leverages our data

A standout example came from Jessica Rose Filosa's award-winning dissertation from Virginia Tech, "An Examination of the Audit Implications of Third-Party Risk." Congratulations to Jessica on this well-deserved recognition! Her research leveraged Audit Analytics' internal control database and cybersecurity database to analyze material weaknesses, cyber incidents and audit fee patterns across thousands of companies, tackling ambitious research questions that require comprehensive, structured data.

When researchers have the right data infrastructure, they can pursue large-scale empirical studies that advance the field. The kind of research that moves accounting scholarships forward.

2. Manual data collection is stealing research time

It was prevalent that researchers are still spending much of their project time on data gathering and cleaning instead of actual analysis. That's weeks (sometimes months) of manual work per project that could be spent on hypothesis testing and getting to publication.

Access to pre-structured, verified audit analytics data isn't just convenient. It's transforming how researchers allocate their time and what research questions they can realistically pursue.

3. Reproducibility starts with trusted data

Academic research demands one thing above all else: data you can trust for publication. Audit Analytics provides researchers with authoritative, verified datasets that strengthen research credibility and streamline the peer review process. No more defending questionable data sources or fielding methodology concerns about data integrity.

When researchers cite Ideagen Audit Analytics in their work, they're building on a foundation that the academic community recognizes and respects, which means their findings can focus on advancing knowledge, rather than justifying their data sources.
