AS9145

The product development and validation standard for aerospace and defense manufacturers.

Overview

Uniting product and process design for improved quality

The AS9145 standard aims to support aerospace and defense manufacturers to ensure the consistent and precise satisfaction of customer requirements in both design and production. The standard describes two intrinsically linked processes: advanced product quality planning (APQP) and the production part approval process (PPAP).

  • Ensure the right fit, form and function
  • Reduce product defects
  • Align with customer requirements

The benefits of AS9145 compliance

Complying with AS9145 ensures a reliable, repeatable production process to consistently deliver high quality products that meet customers’ requirements. Additionally, compliant organizations benefit from improved communication between the customer, design and production, as well as reduced production errors and wastage.

  • Global recognition amongst IAQG members
  • Meet design specifications in production
  • Smoother more efficient production processes

AS9145 FAQs

Which other standards does AS9145 integrate with?

The requirements and goals of AS9145 integrate with four other standards in the aerospace and defense industry: AS9100, AS9102, AS9103 and AS9110.

Specifically, AS9145 relates to section eight of AS9100.

What is APQP?

Advanced product quality planning is a framework for integrating manufacturing processes throughout the product lifecycle.

It consists of five distinct stages, from planning to ongoing production.

What is PPAP?

The production part approval process provides a structured methodology for approving new and amended parts and production methods.

It evaluates risk at each stage of the APQP process, culminating in a submission package of 11 documents.

When should a PPAP submission be completed?

PPAP submissions can be requested by customers at any stage. However, they are most typically required when a new part has been ordered or when changes are made to existing parts or processes.

Is AS9145 compliance necessary?

By complying with AS9145, you can benefit from proven supplier credentials to gain recognition among IAQG members, access to aerospace and defense supply chains and approved vendor status with the industry’s key players.

So, while compliance is not legally mandated, it’s highly recommended for manufacturers in this space.

How can I streamline compliance?

Tools such as Ideagen Quality Control can help manufacturers achieve compliance more easily by creating accurate, standardized reports effectively

with fewer errors and less time and resource required compared to manual reporting.
